Mexican featherweight king Marco Antonio Barrera has been given medical clearance to fight in Texas. Barrera, scheduled to take on Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 15 at the Alamodome, was examined by a Houston neurologist on Monday at the request of the state Department of Licensing and Regulation in Austin, which oversees boxing in Texas.
The tests were ordered after reports surfaced that Barrera had undergone brain surgery in 1997 to repair a congenital defect.
Barrera was examined by Dr. Andres H. Keichian, who pronounced the fighter “fit to participate in combative sports.”
