Once again, an upcoming Manny Pacquiao fight has Filipinos scratching their heads in confusion and wringing their fists in indignation. The 37-year old boxing champion, and senator, has fully committed to training for a return to the ring. Not for the first time, concerns have been raised over Pacquiao shirking his duties as a public servant for a boxing match.
Pacquiao will face American Jessie Vargas on November 5 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum put together the fight when Manny Pacquiao decided to make a return from retirement. The last Manny Pacquiao fight was a bout against Chris Algieri, an underwhelming follow-up from the Floyd Mayweather blockbuster of 2015 and his third battle with Timothy Bradley.

The peculiar move is just the most recent of Pacquiao?s questionable choices that have distanced him from his position as the Philippines? darling and national pride, just a few years back. First, in 2010, Pacquiao was elected as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the province of Sarangani. His absenteeism as a congressman drew criticism: instead of focusing on his public office, Pacquiao spent much of his time on other facets of his career, such as showbiz and basketball coaching, not to mention his occasional boxing match.
