A DONNIE Nietes vs. Roman Gonzalez fight should be any boxing fan?s dream.
Gonzalez, the best pound-for-pound fighter in world today, against Nietes, one of the finest boxers to ever fight out of the Philippines. The thought of it should get any hardcore boxing fan excited.
?It?s a dream fight. It will be a good fight,? ALA Gym head trainer Edito Villamor told Sun.Star Cebu.
Though Nietes and his team are eager for a shot at Gonzalez, Villamor believes that the fight is highly unlikely as of the moment.
?It?ll be action-packed,? Villamor said of the possible fight. ?But I think the chances of it happening are slim because Gonzalez is fighting at 115, while Donnie is at 112 pounds.?
Gonzalez just went up in weight last weekend and won the World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight belt, his fourth division title, with a hard fought unanimous decision over Carlos Cuadras at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
Villamor believes that Gonzalez still retained his power in the heavier weight division.
?Yes, he still has the same power. Cuadras just fought really well,? he said.
Villamor, however, believes that Gonzalez isn?t unbeatable; he has flaws just like any other fighter.
?He doesn?t fight well moving backwards. But if he is the one who dictates the fight then he can throw punches from all angles,? he said.
The 34-year-old Nietes is deep in training for his debut in the flyweight divison. He is up against veteran former world champion Edgar Sosa in ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN?s third US show, ?Philippines vs. Mexico?, on Sept. 24 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
