Kell Brook will undergo surgery on a broken eye socket on Monday in Sheffield, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.
Brook, the reigning IBF welterweight champion, was taken to hospital with the injury after failing in his quest to dethrone WBA ‘Super’, IBF and WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at The O2 on Saturday.
The 30-year-old’s dream of becoming a two-weight world champion ended in the fifth round when trainer Dominic Ingle threw in the towel following a barrage of unanswered punches from Golovkin.
Brook was taken to hospital following the first defeat of his career where doctors confirmed he had suffered a broken right eye socket.
