Former WBO World super lightweight champion DeMarcus ?Chop Chop? Corley is beginning to aquiver an old school record and he has been fighting since 1996 and was 29-1-1 right out of the gate. He is now 47-27-1 and has won 5 of his last 6 with four of the wins coming in Kingston, Jamaica. His last noteworthy win came against a shot Daniel Attah in 2014 in D.C.
DeMarcus is scheduled to fight inactive underdog Dexter Gonzalez in Guyana tonight and this will be his seventh outing in 2016. At stake will be the vacant WBC Fecarbox lightweight title.
The southpaw road warrior is a former WBO, NABF and USBA light welterweight champion. He also designs his own boxing attire. Corley was an amateur standout, and won the National Golden Gloves Light Welterweight Championship in 1995. Over the years, he has fought just about all comers?including names like Postol, Aydin, Provodnikov, Bracero, Dulorme, Mattysse, Maidana, Witter and Cotto– and now, at 42 yeas-of-age, he seems to have found a comfortable niche, comfortable that is, as long as he stays away from Mexico and the US.
Let?s hope the affable Corley knows when it?s time.
