Boxing Confidential caught up with Rocky Juarez this afternoon via telephone from his Houston home. Juarez finds himself in the midst of preparing for the most important bout of his career against WBC super featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. The clash takes place on September 15 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas with all the action promoted by Golden Boy and televised on HBO pay per view. While the former United States Olympian and silver medal winner is highly focused on his bout with Marquez, BC took the liberty to press Juarez about who he thought was the best super featherweight in the world.
If there ever existed a loaded question, this is it. The division is ripe with talent, including, but not limited to Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Marco Antonio Barrera. Which one did Rocky pick?
Neither of the three.
“I think the winner of Humberto Soto and Joan Guzman represents the best in the division,” said the Houston native, Juarez. Guzman and Soto are schedule to fight in the Fall and interestingly enough, Juarez was defeated via unanimous decision by Soto in a August, 2005 fight.
