Donnie Nietes is looking forward to a rousing debut at flyweight when he faces ex-world champion Edgar Sosa of Mexico on Sept. 24 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
But Nietes is unfazed by Sosa?s sterling credentials, saying he is familiar with the Mexican?s style.
?I am confident of beating his style,? said Nietes as he gets ready to begin the most important phase of his preparation at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.
Videos of Sosa?s fights with Brian Viloria and Rodel Mayol, Filipino punchers the Mexican have faced, have been reviewed by Nietes?s trainers.
Team Nietes, also made up of Edito and Edmond Villamor, are flying to Los Angeles tomorrow night.
ALA Boxing is joining hands with ABS-CBN in staging the slugfest, dubbed Pinoy Pride 38.
The Sosa showdown will be Nietes? second appearance on US soil after beating Juan Alejo, another Mexican, last October also at Carson.
A win by Nietes will propel him to a much-awaited crack at the world 112-lb crown of Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico next year.
?That?s the fight that I want,? said Nietes, whose resume is littered with Mexican victims.
