?Chino? played by Lee Marvin in ?The Wild One? was a bad but loveable sort of guy. Chino played by Marcos Maidana was also a bad type of guy who everyone loved as well.
Well, all good things must come to an end and so it is that Argentinian Marcus ?Chino? Maidana is retiring from boxing at age 33, but don?t feel sorry for this rough and tumble brawler. His two memorable fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr. made him a very wealthy man.
Says Maidana, in part: ?… At this time, I start a new stage in which I will remain close to boxing, advising and unconditionally supporting “Team Maidana”, aiming for new generations to reach the highest levels. I will be there for our world champion Jes?s Cuellar. For new great prospects like Brian Casta?o, my brother Fabi?n Maidana, Alan Casta?o, who are already making some noise internationally? For Javier Maciel. Also I will be there for the new kids like Neri Romero and Luis Ver?n. And most likely I will be there for many others who will join us along the road looking for great challenges. My goal is to pass the baton over to them now.?
While some suspect Chino is still young enough for a comeback, that seems doubtful given the sense of contentment he seems to have found?something that?s highly unusual for retired boxers. He has deserved his good fortune and, more importantly, has the good sense to enjoy it.
