Filipino boxing superstar and incumbent senator Manny Pacquiao is making arrangement with the leadership of the Philippine senate for a brief leave of absence from his duties as senator to prepare for his return fight.
This was bared by Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum who has been waiting for Pacquiao’s decision about his career plan in the wake of his election as senator. Now, Arum sounds definite about Pacquiao’s return saying that its no longer if but when will he fight next. “He is going to fight. I don’t know what the date is. He is working with the President of the Philippines senate for an appropriate date where he can leave the Philippines for two or three weeks to prepare for the fight,? the veteran promoter said Arum, whose Top Rank Promotions holds the right to promote Pacquiao until 2017, said the former pound-for-pound king will have to work on his pre-fight preparations in the Philippines. “In any event he is going to have to do most of his preparation in the Philippines – you know after he sits in the senate – so it is going to be an interesting thing but definitely he is looking to come back and the question is how can we arrange it,” Arum told BoxingScene.com Meanwhile, Pacquiao is busy with his senate bills agenda that include among others the transformation of the Philippine Sports Commission to a full cabinet-level department under the administration of newly-elected president Rodrigo Duterte. Ritchie Garcia, who heads the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said he has talked to Pacquiao about the planned transformation of PSC to a full cabinet-level department to boost the total development of sports in the country.
