Pacquiao cuts short US training; may arrive in Cebu today

THE saga that is Manny Pacquiao has taken another interesting twist.

After canceling his departure to start his training at the Wild Card Gym four times and arriving only last week, the boxing superstar has packed up his bags and has returned to the country.

Pacquiao, who was appointed team captain for the Philippines, did not show up during the World Cup Boxing in Sacramento and stayed only a few days in the US to do some press conference and promotions with Marco Antonio Barrera for their coming Oct. 6 rematch at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

But last Saturday evening, Pacquiao was confirmed to have flown back from the US and is expected to arrive yesterday.

Today

His business partner and confidant Rex ?Wakee? Salud expects him to be in Cebu today.

There were no clear reasons given why Pacquiao decided to fly back to the country since his training has not officially started.

He was accompanied by his Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez.

Training

Pacquiao was supposed to start his training last week but he only showed up at the Wildcard Gym last Aug. 7 when Freddie Roach was with the Filipino fighters campaigning in Sacramento.

Roach also told ABS-CBN in an interview aired last night that he is willing to follow Pacquiao in the Philippines to train Pacquiao here, if the Filipino icon desires it.

Originally, Pacquiao was scheduled to start his training last Aug. 1 but decided to delay the regimen after some conflicts of schedules here.

Pacquiao has only eight weeks left to train, while Barrera has began his training camp middle of July, giving him more than enough time for their Oct. 6 fight.

The Filipino ring icon needs an ideal eight weeks to train properly for his coming fight.

The last time he trained for the Jorge Solis fight last April, he only did so for six weeks.
