CHICAGO -- After 13 years as the face of the Miami Heat, 12-time All-Star Dwyane Wade decided that it was time to move on.
The 6-foot-4. 220-pound guard, the 5th pick in the ultra rich 2003 NBA draft, issued a statement on Wednesday night saying he will sign a two-year $47.5 million deal with his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls.
In order to create cap space for Wade's contract, the Bulls traded veteran Mike Dunleavy to the Cleveland Cavaliers and shipped point guard Jose Calderon to the Los Angeles Lakers.
"This was not an easy decision but I feel that I made the right choice for me and my family," said Wade, who received a two-year $41.7 million offer to return to Miami for a 14th season. But according to multiple reports, the Wade-Heat marriage was "too fractured" to fix.
Wade, 34, leaves Miami as inarguably the city's greatest sports star. He guided the Heat to three NBA titles and five NBA Finals appearances. He appeared in 855 regular season games and averaged 23.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per.
Wade also played in 166 playoffs games and delivered 22.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5 assists per.
