SACRAMENTO – Like the previous days, this one began with breakfast. Only this time, Salven Lagumbay and I were joined by boxing benefactor and Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim.
Wary of too much sweets, I avoided the syrupy pancakes. Instead, I toasted some wheat bread and nearly choked with a corn muffin.
Salven had biscuits and juice while the good mayor settled for a bowl of cereal to go with his coffee. Not much the breakfast type, Philboxng.com owner Dong Secuya stayed in his room.
Lunch was at the Amarin Thai cuisine on the corner of I and 3rd streets. The diners were members of the Philippine media who are here for the World Cup?Recah Trinidad (PDI), Secuya, Lagumbay, Rolly Hison and Dr. Ed Dela Vega of Philboxing.com , and yours truly.
After a wonderful meal, we all trooped to the Aldin Mall in time for the 4 p.m. weigh-in. It was held in front of the Nordstrom and the place was packed to the rafters.
Oscar De La Hoya presided over the affair, while Juan Manuel Marquez made an appearance.
Manny Pacquiao, the team captain of the Philippine team, did not come.
Mayor Lim invited the media for some cocktails and appetizers at the Sofia Restaurant at 7 p.m. Gladly, I accepted the offer and proceeded to imbibe shot after shot of rum and Coke.
T?was a beautiful way to relieve the stress.
At about 9:20 a.m., Juvie Cabigon and his entourage arrived from a drive from San Francisco, where they made a pit stop in LA. Anthony ?Duljoman? Andales? arrival followed soon.
Naturally, more drinks came.
