British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. was forced to weigh-in twice on Friday after hitting the scales at 160.1 pounds for his clash with Tom Doran.
The talented 26 year-old looked bemused as the scales first of all read 160.3 and then 160.1 once he’d removed his customary gloves.
Promoter Eddie Hearn urged the Brighton man to drop his boxers in order to come in under the allotted limit but Eubank Jr. chose to skip off four ounces and come back instead.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ after his initial scaling, Eubank Jr. gave the reason why he didn’t want to take off his underpants: “It’s not even an ounce. It’s a tiny bit over the top. They wanted me to take my underwear off but I didn’t want to scare people out here. I’ll go for a little skip for two or three minutes and I’ll be fine.”
On his challenger Doran, he added: “Tom Doran is undefeated and doesn’t know how to lose and that makes him a dangerous man. You can’t call out the best in the world without putting on top performances. I have to make statements and earn my stripes so Tom Doran is the man I’ll make my statement against on Saturday night.”
