The longest reigning world champion in Philippine history Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes delivered one of his finest ring performances Saturday night at the University of St La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City by dominating former two-time world champion Raul ‘Rayito’ Garcia of Mexico dropping the Mexican two times in the third round and inflicting heavy punishment in rounds four and five before Garcia refused to come out at the start of the 6th round. Nietes won his WBO junior flyweight belt from Rayito’s twin brother Ramon in 2011 at the very same venue in Bacolod which Rayito promised but failed to avenge. Nieties, by the win, in the aptly titled event ‘Pinoy Pride 36 – A Legend in the Making, has become a legend in Philippine boxing.
