WILL revenge prevail over pride?
Expect a bloody fight between longest reigning Filipino world champion and defending junior flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes of Murcia and Mexican challenger Raul “Rayito” Garcia.
The two will square off during the Pinoy Pride 36: A Legend in the Making at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City.
Nietes (37-1-4 with 21KOs), in Thursday’s press conference, accepted the challenge of a knockout victory over Garcia (36-3-1 with 22KOs), who on Tuesday declared that the champion will kiss the canvas within five rounds.
Contrary to what Garcia claimed that Nietes was just running around the ring during his fights, the Filipino champion said that he will go toe-to-toe with Garcia if this is what the Mexican wished for.
?I?ll give him the fight he wants,? Nietes said.
When Nietes was asked if it ever crossed his mind that Garcia will end his reign as champion, he said that the Mexican is not the one who will hinder his future plans.
Garcia replied that he came all the way from Mexico to the Philippines for one purpose ? to end Nietes? reign. ?He has been there as champion for a long time. He should now say goodbye to his title.?
In the undercard, ?King? Arthur Villanueva (28-1 with 14KOs) said that he will also go for a knockout if given a chance.
It?s been his dream to fight again in Bacolod before his fellow Negrenses, he added.
Villanueva will fight against Juan ?El Penita? Jimenez (22-9 with 15KOs) of Mexico for the WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight championship.
For the other undercard, Cagayan de Oro pride Milan Melindo promised a great fight against Maximino Flores, also of Mexico.
All six boxers will be at Robinsons Place Bacolod at noon Friday, May 27, for the official weigh-in.
