CHICAGO --- Golden State Warriors ace Steph Curry won the regular season MVP award for the second straight season and he became the first player in NBA history to win the coveted plum in unanimous fashion.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard garnered all 131 first-place votes, well ahead of other notable contenders -- Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs and LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"I never really set out to change the game. I never thought that would happen in my career. What I wanted to do was be myself," Curry told reporters during his acceptance speech in Oakland, California.
Being himself meant being the best in the NBA. Again.
Curry led the Warriors to a 24-0 start that eventually led to a record-breaking 73-9 finish in the 2015-16 regular season. Curry averaged 30.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 79 games. He shot 50.4 percent from the field, 45.4 percent from 3-point range and 90.9 percent from the free throw stripe. Curry also hit a record 402 triples, shattering his previous mark of 286.
After missing four playoffs games with a knee injury, Curry returned to action on Monday night and scored 40 points (17 in overtime) to lead the Warriors to a 132-125 Game 4 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, giving Golden State a commanding 3-1 lead in their Western Conference semifinals. (HDS)
