In a war of blood and guts, Israel Vazquez (42-4, 32 KOs) got revenge by stopping Rafael Marquez (37-4, 33 KOs) in the sixth round to regain his WBC super bantamweight at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.
Neither man took a step back, throwing power punches without hesitation for the entire six rounds. Marquez was cut under his right eye, Vazquez’s face was a swollen, bruised up mess and cut above both eyes.
The end came in the sixth, when Varquez dropped Marquez with a hard punch, and never allowed him to recover as he jumped on him with big punches to force referee Guadalupe Garcia to stop it.
In the co-feature, WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero (27-2, 18 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Jorge Lacierva (32-7-6, 22 KOs). The scores were 115-112, 116-111 and 116-110.
