IN AN attempt to soothe the wounds of a highly controversial decision loss of interim world champion Randy Petalcorin to Omari Kimweri, the World Boxing Council (WBC) has given him mandatory status to face WBC Silver light flyweight champion Ricardo Perez.
Though it was a good move by the WBC to give Petalcorin another chance, this time at his true weight division, Sanman CEO Jim Claude Mananquil is still disappointed because the decision over their complaint remains. He, however, respects the WBC?s decision and is opening their options on their next move.
?The result of the complaint still has no change in the decision. I will meet with the whole team of Petalcorin and decide on what to do next. All I could say is we have done everything. For Randy and I, I respect the decision of the WBC,? Mananquil told Sun.Star Cebu.
Loss
Petalcorin, the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) light flyweight titleholder, lost to Kimweri in a WBC Silver flyweight title fight last April 15 in Victoria, Australia.
Petalcorin apparently dropped Kimweri at least four times, but referee Malcolm Bulner didn?t call a single one a knockdown.
Complaint
Manangquil and Australian promoter Peter Maniatis cried foul after the decision and sent a complaint to the WBC.
?It still depends. We will offer them to fight us in Australia. If they will accept it, then through, but if not we won?t fight in Mexico. If the fight won?t push through, then we?ll let Randy fight in the Philippines,? said Manangquil.
Perez is a 24-year-old Mexican with a 10-2 slate with eight knockouts.
He has won his last four fights with his latest a unanimous decision win over one-time world title challenger Mauricio Fuentes.
Mananquil plans to pit Petalcorin here with a foreign fighter possibly on the third week of June if ever the Lopez fight won?t materialize.
