Lee Haskins to defend IBF belt against Erik Morales’ brother Ivan

The fight was announced by Haskins’ handler Jamie Sanigar this Thursday and will take place at Cardiff’s Ice Arena on May 14.

Haskins, 32, was handed the red strap when former champion Randy Caballero failed to make weight for their scheduled contest, and by the time the Bristol man takes to the ring, it will be a full eleven months since his last bout.

The talented southpaw, known as ‘PlayBoy,’ has won 32 of 35 contests in the paid ranks and holds eye-catching victories over compatriots Jamie McDonnell, Ryan Farrag and Stuart Hall, plus world-rated Ryosuke Iwasa.

His 24 year-old opponent is the younger brother of multi-weight title holding boxing legend Erik ‘El Terrible’ Morales and has lost just once in 30 bouts since turning pro at just 17.

That solitary reverse came as a huge shock against the experienced Edgar Jimenez last August, although Morales has since scored a comeback win – albeit at the super-featherweight limit.

Morales travels outside Central or North America for the first time in his career and will be the underdog in a fight for the first time in his career.
