Manny Pacquiao will lead in the unveiling of the battle cry and logo of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games during the Olympic Day Run tomorrow at the Roxas Blvd. Baywalk in Malate.
Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (Philsoc) members Tom Carrasco and Red Dumuk yesterday said the rites will serve as the signal to start the public awareness program of the Philsoc regarding the SEA Games the country is hosting next year.
“Manny has agreed to be actively involved in the program, which will commence on Sunday during the Olympic Day Run,” the two Philsoc officials announced during the SCOOP Sa Kamayan weekly session.
The duo, however, did not say what the battle cry will be but it will no longer be “Pilipinas Bira.”
The Philippine Olympic Committee had earlier said that it has adopted the slogan “Pilipinas Bira.” But POC President Celso Dayrit said this had been changed.
“Sa Linggo na ninyo malalaman. What I can assure you is that the battle cry will be more conducive to the atmosphere Philsoc will try to create come the SEA Games,” said Dumuk.
Manila Mayor Jose “Lito” Atienza, Jr., has been invited as guest of honor and speaker during the morning affair which starts with the 5-kilometer non-competitive race at 6 a.m. to be participated in by physical fitness buffs, sports officials and students of the different schools in Metro Manila.
Also gracing the occasion are Tourism Sec. Roberto “Obet” Pagdanganan, who has been asked to chair the Philsoc, DOT sports director Cynthia Carrion, International Olympic Committee representative to the Philippines Frank Elizalde, Dayrit and officials of the different national sports associations.
