If there was one saving grace to the Mandalay Bay card, it was the savagery between Aussie Rocky Kastidis and Filipino southpaw Czar Amonsot. Katsidis scored two knockdowns but was a bloody mess from start to finish.
How savage was it? Both of these guys wound up in the hospital, Katsidis for stitches and the Pinoy fighter for examination of a possible “bleed”–meaning a blood clot–on his brain. There is no final word yet on how Amonsot made out with that.
It was savage, it was special and the lingering effects will likely shorten both of their careers. The sensational picture above, by our globetrotting shutterbug Sumio Yamada, is worth a lot more than 1,000 words.
Somewhere, sitting in front of a TV set, a guy named Micky Ward and a fellow named Arturo Gatti were smiling. Been there, done that, Ward and Gatti had to be thinking.
You can be sure Czar and Rocky would get the Gatti-Ward seal of approval.
