Motor Mouth Khan at it Again

Comparing his upcoming fight With Canelo Alavrez, Amir Khan pointed to Sugar Ray Leonard?s win over the equally legendary Marvelous Marvin great Hagler as ?proof? that a fast and explosive welterweight (allegedly like Khan) can move up and defeat a formidable middleweight.

Here is what he told Sky:

?It?s going to be amazing to be called the middleweight world champion and that?s like a dream come true??Even though I achieved a lot in my amateur days and also as a professional, I still think winning this fight against such a big name in Canelo, and becoming the middleweight champion, will be bigger than anything I?ve done. I know it can happen, because we?ve seen it happen in the past, when Sugar Ray Leonard took on Marvin Hagler. He was in a very similar position to me, where people were saying he was going to get beaten up, get knocked out and get hurt. He was going up two weight divisions and he went in there and beat Marvin Hagler. Sugar Ray Leonard was a great, great fighter but I really believe this is going to take me up to another level.?

Khan is his own worse enemy when it comes to hyping fights. He would be better served emulating Canelo (46-1-1) and focus on the fight. In plain English (no pun intended), Khan talks too much. He talked his way out of a Mayweather fight and now he has his mouth on turbo charger again.

However, mentioning himself in the same sentence as Hagler and Leonard is over the top and just plain bile-inducing. Indeed, his fighting style is only exciting because of the risk he’ll get knocked out. And that?s what is likely to happen in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 7, 2016l
