Did the Los Angeles doctor who operated on Manny Pacquiao last year insert bionic implants on the Filipino fighter?s right shoulder that he has morphed into the 21st Century?s rebirth of The Six Million Dollar Man?
Based on reports coming from Los Angeles, Pacquiao?s first sparring session since arriving reportedly had him unleashing an avalanche of right hands against Congolese-Canadian Ghislan Maduma and American Lydell Rhodes as the Filipino icon?s buildup intensified for the April 9 clash with Tim Bradley.
Actually, Pacquiao had been using his right hand a lot even during his training in General Santos City and Rhodes was the main recipient of those blows.
?I caught a lot of rights,? said Rhodes Tuesday, sounding surprised since he had sparred with Pacquiao before but always had his eye on the boxer?s legendary left, which is the fighting congressman?s money shot.
Pacquiao was forced to go under the knife four days after the Floyd Mayweather super fight in May last year. After the operation, Pacquiao was advised to wear a sling to protect his right arm and was told to refrain from engaging in strenuous activities.
But as soon as the injury healed, Pacquiao was seen playing basketball, going scuba-diving and shadowboxing.
?It was great to see him firing that right,? reported ace publicist Fred Sternburg yesterday from the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood where Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum was also present alongside a good friend in Academy Award-winning director William Friedkin.
Trainer Freddie Roach had actually been telling Pacquiao about his solid right hand but the fighting congressman always had reservations making full use of it perhaps because he knew something was not right.
But now that it has gone a major repair, Pacquiao has become so enamored by its seemingly magical powers that the right ? and not the left that will put Bradley down.
