Golden Boy flexes Bautista’s contract

GOLDEN Boy Promotions (GBP) is bent on keeping Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista in its fold for three more years despite the contract that still ties the Boholano sensation for at least two more fights under ALA Boys.

ALA Boys manager Michael Aldeguer sat down with GBP’s vice president and international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz to negotiate a new contract that will place Bautista under the Oscar De La Hoya-owned promotional outfit for three more years.

However, this development was already announced by the young Aldeguer when Bautista came home following his unanimous decision win over Sergio Manuel Medina of Argentina last May 5 in Las Vegas.

“I have committed to them and have accepted the offer that Boom Boom will be with GBP for three years because we trust the honesty and integrity of GBP, they always look after the welfare of the boxers, which is the priority of ALA Boxing Gym,” Aldeguer said as reported by Philboxing.com

Aldeguer stressed that his meeting with the Golden Boy executives is part of the long-term plans of ALA Boxing and SGG Promotions, which is now solely delegated by boxing patron Antonio Lopez Aldeguer on his shoulders.

“We cannot think of any other promoter because we know they are the best and they have great and honest people to work with. ALA Boxing will always be with GBP, they have done so much for us even just for a year of working with them. They have always been honest with us,” Aldeguer was quoted further.

Undefeated in 23 ring battles, including 17 by knockouts, Bautista will be facing a tough opponent, Daniel Ponce De Leon, on Aug. 11 as the main event of the World Cup Boxing—Mexico vs. Philippines ring battle at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.

In March 2006 Gomez and Lewkowicz came all the way from the US to sign Bautista and Z Gorres to a five-fight deal.

Of the five, Bautista has only fought three times, not counting Bautista’s two-round workout over Mexican Marino Montiel last February here in Cebu City.

After signing up with GBP, Bautista had fought Nicaraguan Roberto Bonilla in May 2005 underneath the Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Rocky Juarez first meeting Brazilian Giovanni Andrade in December last year, Montiel and Medina.

If not for injuries (flu in July last year and broken collarbone in September), Bautista could have consumed his promotional contract with the GBP early this year.

The youthful Aldeguer believed that by committing to the proposal of the Golden Boy executives, the relationship between the US-based outfit and ALA Gym and SGG Sports Promotions has brought about brighter prospects to the Filipino boxers.
