PROMISING super bantamweight Jack Tepora hopes to break into the world rankings and get a step closer to a world title shot with a win this Sunday night.
“Jack just wants to let people know that Omega Gym fighters also know how to fight. He said he wants to win this title to be ranked with the WBO (World Boxing Organization),” Omega Pro Sports International vice-president Chad Ca?ares told Sun.Star Cebu.
The 22-year-old Tepora faces young prospect Jason Tinampay for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific super banttamweight strap in the main event of Omega Pro International’s new boxing series “Who’s Next?” powered by Hyundai at the Robinsons Galleria.
Since his pro debut in 2012, the former amateur standout has been impressive, racking up a 16-0 record that includes 11 knockouts. Some of the notable names that Tepora has defeated are former regional champions Marvin Tampus and Jason Egera, both of whom he knocked out.
The 20-year-old Tinampay is 7-2 with six knockouts. He dropped a fifth round technical knockout to Rimmar Metuda in a World Boxing Federation (WBF) Asia-Pacific super bantamweight belt last year before successfully bouncing back with a third round stoppage of Marjhun Tabamo last January.
“This fight is very crucial. If Jack wins he may break into the WBO top 15 in the division. Omega Pro Sports International president Paolo Castillo and I have discussed bigger plans for Jack this year but he has to win this fight before anything else. We would like to invite the fans to come and support Jack and the other fighters on this free-to-the-public event, which is is a first as this will be a first time a free boxing event is happening inside a mall. And at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu at that,” said Ca?ares.
Former world title challenger Vergilio Silvano (20-6-1, 12 KOs) trades leathers with experienced Fernando Ocon (13-10-1, 5 KOs) in the main supporting bout.
