LOS ANGELES keenly awaits the arrival of Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao, who is booked to take a Philippine Airlines flight at 10 tonight with training assistants Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri as well as lawyer Franklin Gacal.
Pacquiao however, won’t be reporting at the Wild Card Boxing Club just yet as he would still participate in several promotional activities that Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions has programmed next week in connection with Pacquiao’s much-awaited rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera.
First up is a press conference that will be held at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Tuesday with the top brass of both promotional firms in attendance.
Top Rank chief Bob Arum also disclosed that the two fighters would likely be flown to San Francisco and Mexico City to drum up more interest to the Oct. 6 clash set at the 12,000-seat Events Center inside Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
After the promotional gig, Pacquiao will also attend to personal and business matters before hooking up with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card on August 1 and the next time Filipinos will get to see him on local soil will be after the Barrera bout.
Tickets will go on sale soon with the high-end ringside seats selling for 0. Others are offered at 0, 0, 0 and 0, while the pay-per-view subscription rate has yet to be agreed upon.
Pacquiao is aiming to repeat his Nov. 2003 11th-round knockout victory over the 33-year-old Barrera, who has vowed to put on the greatest performance of his storied career before hanging up his gloves.
Pacquiao, 28, had earlier thought about leaving on July 1 but was forced to postpone his trip as he was still not yet finished with the filming of a movie that will be shown later this year.
