Pacquiao moves on from Nike split

If Manny Pacquiao is unable to forge a deal with a new sports apparel brand following Nike?s decision to sever ties with him, the Filipino icon might end up taking a page from the past when he meets Timothy Bradley on April 9.

?He might even use the brand that he wore when he fought (Marco Antonio) Barrera in 2003,? said Pacquiao?s adviser Mike Koncz yesterday as he took a break from watching his boss? training in General Santos City.

Even though Nike has decided to stop having Pacquiao as one of its brand ambassadors, the fighter continues to wear its line of products from cross training shoes to boxing boots to quick-drying shirts and shorts during his workouts.

Interestingly, during a game of basketball on Sunday night, Pacquiao even donned an Under Armour pair of shoes, something Koncz said wasn?t surprising at all.

Under Armour has Pacquiao?s trainer Freddie Roach as one of its endorsers and it won?t come as a shock if the 37-year-old southpaw ends up striking a deal with the company that has Stephen Curry as its top model.

Pacquiao wore a pair of Mizuno, a top-level Japanese brand, when he scored a breakthrough win on US soil in Nov. 2003, stopping Barrera in the 11th round at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The win over Barrera jumpstarted Pacquiao?s career to greater heights.

Nike put a stop to its endorsement contract with Pacquiao following his remarks against carnal acts committed in same sex marriages.

Pacquiao stood his ground and just shrugged off Nike?s abrupt decision, saying he is only basing his statements on what?s written in the Bible.
