The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly at Barclays Center

Better to be Safe than Sorry?Ronnie Shields

Any time, any place, anywhere??Tyson Fury

Anywhere I hit you, even in the body, the legs go out. It?s boxing?Charles Martin

The class Deontay Wilder showed in not gloating after concussing Arthur Szpilka into another solar system during last night?s encounter in Brooklyn was as good as it gets. Sportsmanship was what was required and sportsmanship was what was delivered. Szpilka?s MRI and CAT scan came back clean, but he will stay in a local hospital overnight for observation.

Conversely, but to no one?s surprise, the bad was displayed by boorish Tyson Fury who disrespected a game Szpilka by jumping all over the ring and acting like a common soccer hooligan while the ?Pin? was being carried out in a stretcher. Fury?s act is getting tiresome and predictable. He needs new material.

But the really, really ugly came early when Jimmy Lennon Jr. asked the crowd to stand and remain silent as ?Boxing? paid tribute to Jose Sulaiman for the second consecutive year. This inexplicable and bile-inducing incident diminished what should have been a solitary and truly solemn tribute to Howard Davis Jr.

This nod to Jose was so ugly, it surpassed Charles Martin?s post-?fight? interview in which he explained how he ?stopped? Vyacheslav Glazkov. Martin?s reign may be the shortest in heavyweight history. .

Boxing continues to be its own worst enemy.
