RP champion’s punches hard as stone, says Indon

FALLEN INDONESIAN fighter Muhammad Rachmann aptly describes the power behind the blows delivered and landed by his Filipino tormentor, Florante Condes.

“His (Condes) punches were as hard as stone,” Rachmann told fightnews after losing his International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight crown late Saturday night in Jakarta.

Condes decked Rachmann with a left uppercut to the jaw in the third round and he visited the floor once again in the 10th with a right cross but gallantly survived Condes’ onslaught.

Rachmann also told the Indonesian media that he was astounded by the crippling power behind Condes’ punches.

As this developed, the camp of Rachmann told The Jakarta Post, the leading English-language newspaper of Indonesia, that a rematch will take place sometime in December.

“I will try to reclaim my title in a rematch in December,” Rachmann told a press conference in Jakarta last Monday.

The 35-year-old Rachmann’s manager, Martinez Dos Santos, disclosed that a rematch clause was agreed by the two parties and that promoter Fandy Juney Sugiarto will stage the second meeting between the Filipino buzzsaw and the Indonesian iron man.

Sugiarto also told The Post that “of course, this time, Condes will receive more money than Rachmann, who will be the challenger.”

In a statement to the media upon his arrival in Manila on Monday, Condes’ chief handler Aljoe Jaro said his boxer is eager to defend his title in Manila since there is no provision in the contract that calls for a rematch with Rachmann.

Meanwhile, the local telecast of the Condes-Rachman title fight will likely be shown by Solar Sports.

Solar Sports chief operating officer Peter Chanliong told the Bulletin that he is going to meet with Jaro to discuss the merits of the purchase of the broadcast rights.

A source revealed that “it’s already a done deal” although it was learned that Jaro had assured the group of Rod Nazario, Manny Pacquiao’s former business manager, that the rights will be given to them in exchange for the support Nazario and company have given to his fighters.

Nazario’s group, which airs the weekly TV boxing program In This Corner, is the registered business manager of Condes, whose last nine fights prior to the IBF title fight, were shown in the said program.
