Pacquiao: Porsche papers legal

Boxing champ Manny Pacquiao on Thursday doused rumors that he failed to pay taxes for his Porsche SUV at the Bureau of Customs (BoC).

Pacquiao purchased the luxury vehicle — a Porsche Cayenne — two weeks before his match with Mexican boxer Erik Morales in February last year. A report by Thomas Hauser of secondsout.com said the Porsche Cayenne costs $67,639 or P3.5 million.

Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales earlier told ABS-CBN News that the BoC and the Land Transportation Office have an agreement that imported cars without clearance papers from the customs bureau will not be registered. He did not say if Pacquiao underpaid his taxes to ship the vehicle to the Philippines.

Pacquiao said he personally called the BoC to check if all the documents for the Porsche Cayenne were in order. He declined to say how much tax he paid for the vehicle.

He added that those who claimed that he did not pay the taxes for the SUV were only jealous.
