DONNIE Nietes? move to the flyweight division may take a little bit longer as he?s not leaving the 108-pound division nor relinquishing his World Boxing Organization (WBO) and lineal The Ring light flyweight belts anytime soon.
A trilogy with former world champion Moises Fuentes, on the other hand, could be what?s in store for Nietes in 2016.
?There is a big possibility that there will be a third fight. Fuentes might be declared by the WBO as the mandatory challenger,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Fuentes should be named as Nietes? mandatory challenger after beating another former world champion Francisco Rodriguez yesterday. Fuentes walked away with a split decision against Rodriguez in a title eliminator in Baja California, Mexico.
Fuentes and Rodriguez both lost to Nietes.
?In the WBO Convention, they said that the Fuentes vs. Rodriguez fight was an eliminator,? said Aldeguer.
Nietes? mandatory title defense is still due in April, and if Fuentes, currently ranked second, will be named as the No. 1 contender, then ALA Promotions will try to bring the third fight to the Philippines.
