General Santos City ? Manny Pacquiao fully understands the difficulties encountered by Filipino athletes when they compete overseas and the boxing star has vowed to provide an outpouring of financial support so they can compete alongside their rivals.
?We all cheer and tell them to win and bring home medals but they?re not as supported as the other athletes from other countries,? Pacquao said late Friday night during a get-together with Vice-President Jejomar Binay.
Pacquiao is running for a Senate seat under Binay?s United Nationalist Alliance banner and has promised to lend a helping hand although he didn?t exactly tell how.
But given Pacquiao?s legendary generosity and exalted status in the world stage, securing assistance should come in handy.
It?s always been the case that Filipino athletes complain about money?or more specifically the lack of it?as a major stumbling to reaching their dreams.
While the Philippines? neighbors in the Southeast Asian region are receiving way more than what Filipinos get from the government, Pacquiao said he will move heaven and earth to make things happen.
Pacquiao himself toiled when he was beginning his career as an amateur fighter and despite his talents, he needed somebody like Hall of Fame Freddie Roach to fine-tune his skills and a battery of trainers to make sure he is in tip-top shape.
