CEBU?S prominent boxing promoter Rex ?Wakee? Salud announced the postponement of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) title defense of Randy ?Kumo?ng Bato? Suico from July 22 to July 28.
?It?s already moved to July 28 and we can?t find any venue yet. The card is almost complete except for the undercard,? Salud told Sun.Star Cebu.
Matchmaker Willy Flores noted that the card might be staged in Manila due to the lack of a sizable venue for the card.
Suico will make his second title defense of the OPBF lightweight title against his No.2 contender Koji Samejima in a scheduled 12-round affair.
The card will also feature the one-time world title challenger Eriberto ?Yukka? Gejon fighting against Japanese Masatsugu Okada in a scheduled 10-round affair.
Also seeing action in the card is the WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Jimrex Jaca against Ryu Miyagi of Japan.
Salud, however, did not elaborate whether Jaca is going to put his WBO regional belt on line in this contest.
Samejima could be a tough fight for Suico, who made his first title defense last April 23 with a unanimous decision win over Tomonori Nakagawa after 12 rounds.
The Japanese challenger is on a four-fight winning streak, including three straight by knockouts and parades a 15-1-1, 6 KOs record. Suico on the other hand has a 26-3, 22 KOs record to brag of.
Gejon, on the other hand, is going to make his second ring appearance since he lost his try to become a world champion last year. Hoever, it is doubtful Okada can give a good run against the crafty Cebuano puncher with his pathetic ring record of 8-9-3, 3KOs.
As for Jaca (28-3-1, 13 KOs), Miyagi (16-1-2, 12 KOs) is also a tough opponent as the 32-year-old Japanese obviously packs a knockout punch underneath his gloves.
This card, Salud stressed, has a Philippines vs. Japan setting.
