An exciting war is being targeted for December 5th, when former world champions Moises Fuentes and Francisco Rodriguez Jr. may potentially collide in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. The bout would be a final WBO junior flyweight eliminator to get a world title shot at current champion Donnie Nietes.
Rodriguez (17-3-1, 13 KOs) lost a hard-fought twelve round decision to Nietes in July. Rodriguez unified the WBO/IBF titles at 105-pounds in a fight of the year battle against Katzunari Takayama of Japan last August before moving up in weight.
Rodriguez also lost to the current pound-for-pound king Roman ‘Chocolatito” Gonzalez in 2013.
Fuentes (22-2-1, 12 knockouts), who held the WBO title at 105, has beaten the likes of Puerto Rican great Ivan Calderon. He fought Nietes twice, going to a close draw in the first fight in 2013 and then losing by knockout in the 2014 rematch. Fuentes has won three in row, including a knockout of former champion Oswaldo Novoa in July.
