Carson, California ? Is Donnie Nietes asking for trouble?
Moments after retaining the World Boxing Organization (WBO) light-flyweight title for the eighth time at the StubHub Center, Nietes was asked about the fighter he wants to face when he returns to the ring next year.
?I want Roman Gonzalez,? said Nietes after scoring a one-sided 12-round unanimous decision over Juan Alejo of Mexico.
Just an hour before his win over Alejo, Nietes was already told about the result of Brian Viloria?s failed bid to upset Gonzalez, the Nicaraguan knockout king.
When Nietes answered the bell for Alejo, Gonzalez had already dealt Viloria a terrible beating in their match at New York?s Madison Square Garden.
Nietes wasn?t obviously awed by Gonzalez?s spine-tingling showing that he kept repeating to anyone who cared to ask that he wants Gonzalez badly.
Michael Aldeguer had revealed a few days ago that representatives of Gonzalez had already reached out to him even before Saturday?s fights and the ALA Boxing chief maintains that efforts are being exerted to make the fight.
However, Aldeguer bared that the Gonzalez fight not take place early next year but towards the second half or latter part of 2016.
Besides, Aldeguer is planning to hold a hometown fight for Nietes in Bacolod City in March of next year.
Nietes last fought in Bacolod City in 2011.
