Moments ago at Madison Square Garden in New York, middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin kept his undefeated record intact with an impressive x round stoppage of former world champion David Lemieux. Although Lemieux was game, he simply couldn’t gain the respect of the bigger, harder-hitting Golovkin, who patiently walked him down behind a stiff, consistent jab while busting him up with right hands. After dropping Lemieux in the 5th round, Golovkin continued to batter his opponent before the referee had seen enough and called a halt to the onslaught at 1:32 of round 8. Also on the card, WBC flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez kept his undefeated record intact as well with a dominant 9th round TKO of former champion Brian Viloria. Although Viloria was also game, taking the fight right to Gonzalez from the start, he simply couldn’t handle the accurate, sharp-shooting combinations of the champion. Gonzalez dropped Viloria in the 3rd round and continued to pick him apart until the fight was stopped in the 9th.
