Despite his bitter loss in the May 14 elections, boxer Manny Pacquiao remains a very hot commodity as far as commercials and other product endorsements are concerned.
The 28-year-old boxer lost in his bid for a congressional seat in the first district of Gen. Santos City, his hometown, where he reportedly spent a whopping P140 million in his campaign.
But after accepting defeat in the polls, Pacquiao shifted his focus back to boxing. He’s looking forward to an October fight where he stands to earn much more than what he lost in the elections.
Pacquiao, his wife Jinkee and sons Michael and Emmanuel, were in the US earlier this month for a brief, well-deserved vacation. Shortly after, he tried to tie loose ends concerning his boxing career.
Pacquiao returned to Manila early yesterday morning, and in the afternoon was already busy meeting some old and new sponsors, according to his chief of staff, Jake Joson.
“He’s busy meeting possible sponsors for his next fight. There are some renewals and new ones. Despite his loss in the elections, he remains hot,” added Pacquiao’s close associate.
Among Pacquiao’s old customers are Motolite, Alaxan, Nike, Caf? Puro and the various San Miguel Corp. products, from beer, milk, vinegar to ice cream.
Pacquiao is in the middle of a court case between Top Rank and Golden Boy, which are both claiming to be the rightful promoter of the Filipino sensation.
Pacquiao is under Top Rank, and its case against Golden Boy has denied the Filipino of a chance to land big fights against Mexican stars Juan Manuel Marquez and Marco Antonio Barrera.
A mediation meeting between the two promotional outfits started the other day in Los Angeles and will resume today. If a settlement is arrived at, the possibility of Pacquiao facing either Marquez or Barrera opens.
Otherwise, the case continues in court, and Pacquiao will probably have no other choice but to face Mexico’s Humberto Soto, another Top Rank boxer, in October.
