Viktor Postol KO 10 Lucas Matthysse
Undefeated light welterweight Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KOs) just picked up the previously vacant 140-pound WBC world title with a stunning tenth round knockout of big punching Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34 KOs) Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA as seen live on HBO. Postol, trained by the legendary Freddie Roach, used his heigh and reach to negate Matthysse?s power early in the bout. Postol jabbed well and slowly took over the bout with his boxing and ring generalship as the rounds wore on. Late in the bout he really started to dial in the accuracy and started to bust the Argentinian up. In Round 10, a perfect right hand counter dropped Matthysse where he looked bloody and beaten, remaining on his knee for a full ten count. The victory gave the Kiev, Ukraine native his career defining win as he now looks to move on to bigger unification fights in one of boxing?s hottest divisions.
