IT’S BEEN almost a week since Humberto Soto mauled Bobby Pacquiao, but the emotional pain it caused Manny Pacquiao lingers.
During a conversation with Pacquiao in his plush apartment at the Palazzo in Los Angeles yesterday, the Filipino lefty said he was still hurting from the mauling Bobby suffered from the classy Soto.
Moments after undergoing another round of deposition proceedings in connection with the promotional battle being waged by Golden Boy Promotion (GBP) and Top Rank, Pacquiao revealed that Soto remains on top of the list for his next fight slated on Oct. 6 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
“Most likely it’s Soto,” Pacquiao told his interviewer when asked about the status of his next opponent.
Then came a line from Pacquiao that wasn’t actually an answer to a question.
“I will avenge Bobby’s defeat,” said Pacquiao.
Told that it’s been nearly one week since Soto’s win, Pacquiao did not say a word, an indication perhaps that his mind is consumed by revenge.
“I haven’t forgotten what I saw that night,” said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao’s return to Manila has been set back following the deposition he was asked to make regarding the law suit filed by Oscar de la Hoya’s promotional outfit.
De la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and Arum’s Top Rank are battling for the right to promote Pacquiao’s fights.
If GBP and Top Rank fail to reach a compromise, the case will go into trial.
Pacquiao is currently being promoted by the Bob Arum-owned Top Rank, but GBP is going after the much-coveted Pacquiao owing to his incredible box-office draw.
Hours after Soto’s victory at Madison Square Garden, Pacman said he is willing to give up his purse as long as he gets the chance to lock horns with Soto.
Being in the same stable under Arum, such a fight is possible. However, such scenario depends on Oscar de La Hoya, who may or may not agree to a compromise deal.
