AFTER completing more than 100 rounds of sparring, Dayer Gabutan is more optimistic of his chances of snatching the WBC Silver super bantamweight title from his Chinese opponent.
The former six-time WBO Oriental bantamweight champion left Monday for Hangzhou, China, for his September 11 fight against reigning champion Qui Xiao Jun.
?Naging maganda yung training camp namin at nasa magandang condition na ako kaya sana eh maging maganda rin ipakita ko sa laban,? said the 27-year-old Gabutan.
He is also seeking to end the 25-year-old Chinese?s nine-fight win streak that includes four KOs in 16 wins against two losses.
Qui Xiao wrested the title from Filipino Silverster Lopez last February with a TKO in the sixth round.
Gabutan is seeking his 20th career win that to add to his record of 10 knockouts, four losses and three uncontested fights.
Coach Joven Jorda said his fighter will try to use his reach advantage against Qui.
?Matangkad si Dayer kaya pwede naming gamitin yun na advantage. Malaki ang chance ni Dayer na manalo basta sundin niya yung game planna ginawa namin habang nasa training,? added Jorda.
Gabutan?s rise in boxing started in 2009 when he defeated compatriot Randy Megrino. Since then he has chalked up 13 straight wins before losing to Vusi Malinga in an IBF world title eliminator.
He suffered back-to-back losses against Takahiro Shigee in 2013 and Rey Ramos but recovered in his comeback bout with a fourth round stoppage of Espanosa in La Trinidad, Benguet, in October last year.
