Shane Mosley, 43 knocked out 41-year-old Ricardo Mayorga in the sixth round in Inglewood, California, on Saturday night.
The rematch between the former welterweight and super-welterweight world champions ended with what ?Sugar Shane? regarded as a sweet body shot but Mayorga described as a low blow.
When they last met, in 2008, Mosley won by knockout with one second left in the twelfth round. He later lost to Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Saul Alvarez; all on points over twelve rounds.
On Saturday night, in a tournament he produced himself, Mosley took on Mayorga in a middleweight bout that produced good entertainment and flashes of class.
Mosley, who will be 44 years old on September 7, pushed his record to 48-9, with 40 wins inside the distance. Mayorga, 41, dropped to 31-9, with a draw and 25 knockouts.
Mosley?s son Shane Jr is a 24-year-old middleweight who has won four of his five professional bouts but last fought in March 2013.
Earlier, Joel Diaz remained undefeated by stopping veteran Luis Arceo in the fourth round of a lightweight bout. Diaz has won 16 of his 20 professional bouts inside the distance. Arceo has won 28, lost 14, drawn in four and stopped 18 of his opponents.
Ron Ellis Jr moved to 12-0, with ten knockouts, by beating Jas Phipps (5-6-2; 2) in the second round of a middleweight bout.
In Hong Kong, Rex Tso also retained his unbeaten status, stopping Brad Hore in the seventh round of a super-flyweight bout. Tso has won eleven of his 18 fights inside the distance. Hore, an Australian, dropped to 5-2.
In Washington, Jonathan Maicelo beat Brandon Bennett on points over ten rounds in a lightweight bout. Maicelo improved to 22-2, with twelve knockouts and Bennett dropped to 19-2; 8.
