STAPLES CENTER, Los Angeles -- In a rough and tumble fight, Leo Santa Cruz of Rosemead, California won by majority decision over Abner Mares of Montebello, California and retained his WBA super featherweight title here Saturday night. Scores were Max DeLuca - 114-114, Steve Morrow - 117-111 and Jesse Reyes - 117-111.
Santa Cruz, 32, remained undefeated and improved his record to 31-0-1 with 17 knockouts while Mares absorbed his second loss and dropped to 29-2-1 with 15 stoppages.
