I HAVE always had this fear: If a Filipino boxer fights abroad and the fight lasts the distance, he would lose on points. If not, he would settle for a draw, the way Manny Pacquiao did in his last fight-against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.
Pardon me, but up to now, I still can’t accept that draw. Pacquiao, swollen fist, foot blisters and all, won it, period.
The Pacquiao fight comes to mind again because another Filipino boxer, Randy Suico, lost a crucial bout on points just days ago.
Suico surrendered a split decision setback to Mzonke Fana at the Orlando Community Hall in Soweto, Johannesburg. This, despite the fact that Suico knocked down Fana twice in the 12-round contest.
