Friday night in Newark, New Jersey, Krzysztof Glowacki knocked out Marco Huck to win the WBO World cruiserweight title?
Friday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, unbeaten underdog Krzysztof Glowacki (25-0, 16 KOs), from Walcz, Poland, knocked out WBO World cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (38-3-1, 26 KOs), from Berlin, Germany, by way of Ugao, Serbia, at 2:39 of round 11.
Fighting out of the blue corner in black trunks with gold trim, K?pt?n Hook started slowly. He was tentative. He was picking his shots. He wasn?t throwing combinations.
Glowacki, fighting out of the red corner in white and red trunks, was the busier, more accuratefighter and decisively won three of the first five rounds.
In round six, Huck unleashed an explosive left hook that dropped Glowacki to the canvas. He beat the count but he was hurt. The southpaw Glowacki fought back and was landing lefts at the bell.
It looked like the seasoned champion was going to stop the gutsy challenger. Glowacki won the seventh round. He was still in the fight. But he began slowing down in round eight and Huck won the eighth, ninth and 10th rounds.
Most observers felt it was just a matter of time until Huck dropped Glowacki again, or failing that, the champ would cruise to a unanimous decision after 12 hard-fought rounds.
But Glowacki nailed Huck in the 11th and he went down as if shot. He courageously made it to his feet, but was knocked down and out within seconds.
?When there was one minute left in the eleventh I knew I had to come on strong,? said Glowacki after the fight. ?Huck was trying to bully me in the ring and I brought it to him. This is the biggest night of my life.?
Huck was ahead on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
