Amir Khan has talked up the possibility of a fight with Manny Pacquiao.
Khan had hoped to face Floyd Mayweather in the American’s ‘final’ fight in September – but the pound-for-pound king opted to take on compatriot Andre Berto instead.
The Bolton boxer has now turned his attentions to former training partner Pacquiao, and says he would ‘love’ to fight the Filipino.
“Yes, I think the fight can happen,” he told Dubai Eye 103.8. “If it makes sense financially for both of us, then I think the fight will definitely take place.
“I think it makes sense for both of us to take it. It’s a great storyline because obviously Manny Pacquiao and I used to train together and we had the same trainer, Freddie Roach, so we know a lot about each other. It’s a great story.
“And fighting-style wise, Manny wasn’t at his best against a defensive Mayweather, but with me I’m a totally different fighter. We both like to fight, move and both have tremendous hand speed. I think it would be amazing.
“I’d love to take that fight.”
Pacquiao finally got his long-awaited shot at Mayweather earlier this year, but was beaten on points in an underwhelming contest in Las Vegas.
The Pacman’s promoter Bob Arum recently said he could arrange a fight with Khan, but it wouldn’t take place until next year.
“This kid Amir Khan keeps shooting his mouth off about Manny Pacquiao. I can arrange for Khan to fight Pacquiao,” Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, told The Telegraph .
“Amir Khan has been begging Mayweather for a fight and now he can get a major fight. I’m not a hard guy to deal with. I’m not going to mess them around.”
