In the roughly 10 years that New York?s Madison Square Garden has conducted a ticket pre-sale before the official public sale the GGG-Lemieux card has done the biggest business for a fight.
More than 6,000 tickets were sold on the two-day day pre-sale this week, besting the totals for the Wladimir Klitschko-Bryant Jennings heavyweight championship fight on April 25, which wound up drawing 17,056, and the red-hot 2011 grudge rematch between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito, which drew a 21,239 sellout to see Cotto?s revenge.
?Fans have responded by showing their support for this show,? Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions said. ?We priced the tickets very reasonably and will put on a great show them Oct 17. We have been trying to get another champion to fight GGG and David Lemieux is the first to agree to risk his title, so we give him and Golden Boy a lot of credit.?
