MANILA — Boxing promoter Bob Arum is planning to send a doctor to the Philippines to check on the rehabilitation of Manny Pacquiao?s injured shoulder.
Arum, who was angered by Pacquiao?s decision to forego his scheduled rehab in the US, appears to have tempered down after seeing the boxer?s self-rehab.
?It’s fine with me if he’s not going to be here in the US at the end of the month because the doctor was amazed when he watched the three-minute self-rehab video of Manny,? said the Top Rank Inc. executive in Boxing Scene.
?A doctor will go there in the Philippines in the next couple of weeks to evaluate Manny’s shoulder and I’m really optimistic about it.?
But the veteran promoter declined to talk about Pacquiao?s next bout, adding the boxing superstar’s rotator cuff will have to fully heal first before deciding on his next opponent.
?I cannot say anything yet about his next fight since he’s not yet healed,? said Arum.
Pacquiao earlier allayed Arum?s fears of not getting rehabilitated properly.
“I respect Bob Arum. He’s just like a father to me. I believe he’s just voicing out his concern (for) me and I appreciate it. I don’t take it negatively,” the Filipino said in a statement.
“But he has nothing to worry about (regarding) my injury. I’m doing the rehab myself. I’m recovering faster than expected.”
Pacquiao had surgery on May 7 to repair a tear in his right rotator cuff sustained in his loss to Mayweather in the richest fight of all time in Las Vegas.
He cancelled a scheduled check-up with his surgeon Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles on July 4, prompting criticism from the 83-year-old head of Top Rank promotions, who said “he’s not acting very professionally.”
