MANILA, Philippines ? Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum could not help but shake his head when asked for updates regarding Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, who is supposed to be undergoing rehab for his right shoulder.
Pacquiao aggravated his shoulder injury during the fourth round of his May 2 super-fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. ? which he lost via unanimous decision ? and had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff days later.
Arum was expecting Pacquiao to return to Los Angeles early July to discuss his rehabilitation program with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who performed the surgery, but the “Pacman” did not show up.
“Well, Pacquiao was supposed to come in to see the doctor, and for some reason, he decided to cancel it and come later,” Arum told Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN News on the sidelines of a Top Rank fight card in Dubai.
Shaking his head, Arum added: “You know, he’s not acting very professionally, in my opinion.”
“You got an operation like that, you got to do rehab, you got to get the doctor to look at it and guide you on the kind of rehab that you can do,” he also said.
At the same time, Arum said Pacquiao was “a grown man” who can make his own decisions.
The veteran promoter has no intentions of setting up a fight for Pacquiao while the boxer continues to heal from his injury.
