MANILA, Philippines ? Chances for a rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are slim as the undefeated American will reportedly opt to take the easier rout as he nears retirement.
In a report by David Mayo of mlive.com, Mayweather?s father said the boxer is planning to retire after fighting for the last time in September.
That fight, according to the elder Mayweather, will be against a light opponent.
“Floyd told me he just wants to get a couple of easy fights,” he said.
If this is true, then fans can kiss goodbye their hopes for a Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch. The two boxers fought last May in what ended up as boxing?s richest fight ever, with Mayweather winning a unanimous decision.

Pacquiao?s revelation that he entered the fight with an injured shoulder has convinced some fans that the Filipino icon deserves a second crack at Mayweather. The fighting congressman, however, won?t be back in the ring until next year as he prioritizes his recovery.
If he would have his way, the elder Mayweather would have his son hang up his gloves soon.
“My honest opinion, if he feels that way, he should get on out of the game,” Floyd Sr. told Mayo, adding that the sport has taken its toll on his son.
