During the meeting of boxing managers and promoters yesterday, 29 May 2007, at the spacious ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Sucat, Para?aque City, Philippine Games and Amusements Board Chairman Eric R. Buhain practically lifted the ban in the sending of fighters to Thailand.
Mr. Buhain declared that requests for fights of Filipino boxers in Thailand will be evaluated and approved on a case by case basis.
Mr. Buhain made the decision after hearing justifications foremost of which is that the ban unduly deprives legitimate fighters from availing fight opportunities opened to them in Thailand. These opportunities are now reportedly given instead to fighters of other countries like Indonesia.
The ban was imposed as an aftermath of Lito Sisnorio’s death recently. Lito Sisnorio’s mismatches in Thailand, South Korea and back to Thailand immediately prior to his death were not sanctioned by the GAB.
The successful meeting was hosted by the Elorde-Sarreal families headed by Mrs. Laura Elorde, the widow of the late Gabriel “Flash” Elorde.
